Plant for Pearl Jam! Family Friendly Project!

YOU can help Pearl Jam mitigate their carbon emissions by volunteering to plant native trees and shrubs at three upcoming events! Last year Pearl Jam partnered with Forterra to mitigate 7,000 metric tons of carbon emitted during their 2009 world tour. This year we are working together to restore 33 acres of forested parkland in Kent, Kirkland, Seattle and Redmond. Come out on 2/4 to help clean up Lake Feniwick Park in Kent! These restoration efforts are part of Forterra's Green Cities Partnerships, programs with cities and the community that restore our beloved forested parklands. Volunteers will spend the morning planting native trees, shrubs and ground cover in Lake Fenwick Park while rocking out to Pearl Jam music!! As always, no experience is necessary, and we’ll have all the gloves, tools, and other materials for you, as well as water and snacks. Please remember to bring your own water bottle to re-fill, and/or a mug for coffee. Wear sturdy shoes and consider long pants and long sleeves. All ages are welcome, although all volunteers under 18 must either be accompanied by an adult or bring a signed waiver. We will spend the day putting plants in the ground to help Pearl Jam mitigate the carbon from the word tour. Not only with this help remove carbon from the air but it will also support the efforts of the Green Kent Partnership. Planting in an area previously cleared of invasive species will help increase the health of Lake Feniwick Park and support community efforts of restoration.

Prep and Pack Bikes for Africa

Bicycles for Humanity collects, repairs and cleans up gently used bikes and distributes them to communities in South Africa that are lacking reliable transportation. The bikes are used by students to get to school, small business owners to transport goods and services, and health care workers to reach patients in remote areas. Every time B4H collects 500 bicycles, they need volunteers to help prep and pack them for their journey around the world—and that's where you come in! Join us at our facility in South Park for a fun few hours of work as we get this shipment ready to go. Bicycles for Humanity is entirely volunteer run—your work makes our work possible!

Ales for Alzheimer's

Ales for Alzheimer's is a neighborhood celebration of the best of the microbrew community. This event invites individuals over the age of 21 to travel to a select number of bars and pubs and taste a number of ales along the way. High-energy volunteers are needed who can register, check-in, and provide swag to participants. After the registration period, volunteers who are interested may either participate in the crawl at a discounted rate or continue to volunteer during the crawl until 8pm (if you are interested in continuing to volunteer until 8pm, please contact Brook. Ales for Alzheimer's engages a critical demographic of individuals between the ages of 21 and 45, who have not historically been involved in dementia-related care on the local level. All proceeds directly support the Alzheimer’s Association’s free programs and services, which lend invaluable support and care to individuals and families affected by Alzheimer’s disease and provide funds for research that will lead to a cure for Alzheimer's disease and related dementias.

Dinner and Shelter Prep for ROOTS!

Having a place to receive a nutritious meal and shelter for the night can make all the difference in the lives of our guests at ROOTS! Volunteer crews help prepare healthy meals, as well as set up shelter (typically helping to get clean bedding ready for use in the shelter) for our guests! When guests are able to eat nutritious food and get a good night's rest, their bodies and health is maintained - which on the streets can mean the difference between life or death. Come make a difference in someone's life! Note: please be punctual to this project, but not early. At times, staff is not ready for volunteers - even if you are 10 minutes early.

While siblings Gabriel and Chandler Wimmer celebraed their first-place at the 2014 VEX IQ Robotics World Championship in Anaheim, California, something struck them as odd. The competition hosted more than 10,000 teams from around the world, but the brothers were curious why they didn’t see more teams there – given that there are tens of thousands of elementary and secondary schools in the United States alone.
